In Indian numerology the birth number, also called the psychic number or mulank, is often the first number people learn about. It is quick to calculate and is said to reveal your basic instincts: how you think, what you desire, and how you see yourself when nobody else is watching.
How to find your birth number
Take the day of the month you were born and reduce it to a single digit.
- Born on the 7th → birth number 7
- Born on the 16th → 1 + 6 = 7
- Born on the 29th → 2 + 9 = 11 → 1 + 1 = 2
The month and year do not matter for this number. People born on the 1st, 10th, 19th and 28th all share birth number 1, but each day carries a slightly different flavour because of its compound number.

Birth number vs life path
A helpful way to remember the difference: the birth number is who you are, while the life path is where you are going. A complete reading always looks at both, along with your name number.
